We might be in lockdown, but the sun is shining more than ever (in the UK at least) and we have plenty of free time on our hands to enjoy it with fun garden activities. If you are lucky enough to have access to a garden or private outdoor space during the lockdown, these 10 ideas will have you seriously upping your lockdown game. Whilst the whole family can get involved, these ideas are specifically tailored to adults – because we need to have fun too!
Fun Garden Activities
Many of these ideas require no additional equipment, just a little creativity! For some activities which require additional supplies you might not have at home, I have linked some suggested examples.

1. DIY crazy golf course
What can you find around your house to make a crazy golf course? Firstly you will need some sort of ball and golf club (or something similar). Once you have that, get searching your home for useful items. For holes you could use cups, cut out cardboard, bowls or plant pots. For obstacles you could use books, cardboard, wrapping paper tubes, logs or plant pots.
2. Garden picnic
Eat alfresco! Whilst we shouldn’t be picnicking in the park, we don’t have to miss out on this summer activity. Lay a blanket out in the garden with cushions and home comforts. Bring out a selection of yummy savoury and sweet treats, pour yourself a glass of something delicious or even a jug of Pimms, and pop some feel good tunes on. The perks of picnicking at home are no plastic plates or cutlery, and you can’t forgot the salad cream!
3. BBQ
A classic! Make the most of the sunshine and get BBQ-ing. If you are going to use coal rather than gas, do consider your neighbours who might not appreciate the smoke. If you don’t have a BBQ or don’t want to fork out for one right now, make or buy a small fire pit with a grill rack over the top.
Buy a BBQ Fire Pit on Amazon – and use for your campfire in activity 10 too!
4. Home festival
I have to admit, I stole this idea from a colleague. If you have space in your garden, set up different areas for your own mini festival. Create a bar area to pour and mix your drinks, create a playlist of live music, bring your TV outside and watch Glastonbury performances, make headbands from garden flowers, wear festival attire, pack on the body glitter and get dancing!
5. Assault course
On your marks, get set, go! Make your own assault course with things you find in your home and garden. You can use anything such as paddling pools to jump in, sheets to army crawl under, hula hoops to hop between or brooms to spin around. Get creative and get active.

6. Sports
If you have the space, there are lots of sports you can do from home with just a little equipment. With a net or washing line across the garden, you can play tennis, badminton or volleyball, or use garden furniture for football goals. Alternatively purchase a croquet set, bowls set, or swing ball.
7. Date night
Can you feel the love tonight? Wait until dark and grab every fairy light you can find to adorn your garden with twinkly lights (only if completely dry outside and safe to do so). Lay the table outside, add candles and a romantic playlist. Dine beneath the stars in your private outdoor restaurant.
8. Treasure hunt
If your garden is wild with foliage and blooming flowers, it is a great place for a treasure hunt! Hide treats around the garden or make clues leading to one prize.
9. Bring the holiday to you
In the UK we are experiencing unprecedented sunshine and warm temperatures for April. So whilst many of us are pining over our spring holidays abroad, we actually don’t have to leave our homes for warm climates. As much as we love a BBQ, us brits also an inflatable swimming pool! Transform your garden into a tropic oasis, with inflatable pool, swim up bar up, sun bathing area and classic holiday tunes. Don’t forget the lemon Fanta and Lays crisps for authenticity!
I have my eye on this rectangular frame pool so I can bob around on an inflatable flamingo. The dream!
10. Camp out
A beautiful time of year for camping out beneath the stars. There’s no need to travel, just pitch up your tent in the garden and fill it with cushions, cosy blankets, twinkly lights and home comforts. You can even build a campfire outside to keep warm from the nights chill and toast marshmallows on a stick. Sounds dreamy right?

I hope you give these fun garden activities a go and make the most of your free time in the great outdoors! Great ideas for fun at home! I had a picnic on my patio the other day and so enjoyed the sunshine. I think I’m going to do the camp out when it’s a little warmer here (Midwest, USA). 🙂
Love this and will definitely be trying some this weekend!
I love these ideas! Backyard badminton (and croquet) are calling my name. We take our lawn sports seriously!
