POV: You struggle through the days and think, gosh I’m finding parenting so hard. But then you have days off with your toddler, and realise when you live at their pace, life is so beautiful, and actually it’s everything else (work, housework, life admin) that’s the struggle.

Dont get me wrong, toddlers are a challenge and it amazes me how someone so little can cause so much chaos and for me, a fully grown adult with emotional intelligence, to feel overwhelmed at times. But she’s my sunshine amidst the clouds and I remind myself everyday to try and not let the stresses of life takeover our special time together and the joy she brings us every single day ☀️

⭐️ Mess free and low-effort sensory play ⭐️

When rice, food colourings and cooked spaghetti all around the house just isn’t convenient Winnie LOVES playing with these sparkly Pom Poms in her @inspiremyplay tray. Such a simple thing keeps her entertained for a good half an hour, practices her fine motor skills whilst teaching numbers and colours too. We count them, name the colours, sort the sizes into bowls, scoop them up, and tickle our faces with them 🥰

All you need is:
• pom-poms (these are from @flyingtiger)
• optional tray or bowl (ours is @inspiremyplay)
• bowls or pots (ours are @inspiremyplay)
• spoons or scoops (ours are @inspiremyplay)
• tongs are also fun if you have any - I need to get some!

Hello lovelies, it’s been a minute.

How are you all?

I haven’t posted for a whilst because quite honestly, self-care has been at the bottom of my priority list, wrongly or rightly. I also struggled to know what to post, I’m a mum now and that has completely dominated my life (in the most amazing way) for the last 18 months. But whilst many new mums switch their content to parenting advice, that just didn’t feel right to me. I’m learning on the job, I still don’t feel in a position to give anyone advice. Not even in the realms of integrating self-care into your busy lives because let’s face it… I’m not pulling that off right now!

But as a new year approaches, I know I MUST do better to fill my own cup in new ways. Winnie cuddles are pretty darn good at doing this, but once she goes to bed, my hobbies are… well non-existent and I find myself scrolling my phone or doing jobs until bedtime.

So anyway, if you’re also in the throws and chaos of mum life, and want to get better at carving out time just for you, to feel excited again about free time, to get back into those healthy habits you left behind - let me know in the comments so we can motivate each other!

I still can’t quite believe that I, despite facing postnatal anxiety and swearing I’d never be able to fly with Winnie, took the plunge with my family and embarked on a dream 2-week holiday in Cape Town earlier in the year.

I share the spectacular apartment we stayed in courtesy of @urbanelephantsa and places to go which were fantastic with little Winnie, in this bucket list worthy destination.

Today is World Breastfeeding In Public Day.

Created to normalise breastfeeding in public to empower women to feel comfortable doing the most natural thing in the world when out and about.

When I started breastfeeding I suddenly and unexpectedly felt really nervous to feed out. I’d rush home the second Winnie cried to avoid having to feed her out. I had no shame in breastfeeding, but I was terrified someone would approach me with some negative words that would hamper my breastfeeding journey. A few weeks in I braved it when out with my NCT mums group and that was it - my confidence just grew and grew.

I’ve now been breastfeeding for 7.5 months and have fed Winnie anywhere and everywhere, and have feeding without a nip slip down to a fine art - not that I’d be bothered if she did flash a little boob when she wriggles about and babbles mid feed as babies do.

And in that time I can honestly say I have not been approached once. In fact I’ve even been to a few restaurants where they have asked if I’d be feeding and would I like a comfy or secluded seat to make me more comfortable (like @billsrestaurant in Chichester) which is always appreciated.

It boggles my mind that this campaign is even needed, no woman should be made to feel worried of self-conscious to simply feed her baby. But society has some catching up to do and together we can make that happen 🙏🏻

Much to my surprise I don’t have a single photo of me feeding in public, so this photo of Winnie enjoying her morning feed will have to do - but doesn’t she look so cute 🥹

8 weeks of loving you 💛

I think I can finally say we have settled into a groove and have a loose routine that works for us and Winnie.

And maybe, dare I say, I may be able to start working some self-care and yoga into my day again, and possibly (although this may be a little optimistic) start blogging again 🤭

Learning to be her mummy has been the most challenging and most incredible experience of my life. The blood, sweat and tears, the back pain, the sleep deprivation, the feeling totally depleted from forgetting I need to eat and drink too, the baby brain, the changing body and the emotional hormonal rollercoaster of the forth trimester have been a LOT to navigate. But oh my gosh that little baby melts my heart every second of the day 😍

Social media can make newborn life look like a complete dream full of cute onesies and windy smiles, but behind it there is a mama tackling a whole lot of challenges at once. If you’re in the newborn phase, know you’re not alone in the trenches, and whatever this time looks like for you and your family, you’re doing amazing 🙌🏻

POV: You struggle through the days and think, gosh I’m finding parenting so hard. But then you have days off with your toddler, and realise when you live at their pace, life is so beautiful, and actually it’s everything else (work, housework, life admin) that’s the struggle.

Dont get me wrong, toddlers are a challenge and it amazes me how someone so little can cause so much chaos and for me, a fully grown adult with emotional intelligence, to feel overwhelmed at times. But she’s my sunshine amidst the clouds and I remind myself everyday to try and not let the stresses of life takeover our special time together and the joy she brings us every single day ☀️

Hello lovelies, it’s been a minute.

How are you all?

A few things I have learnt during my breastfeeding

A few things I have learnt during my breastfeeding journey so far that I didn’t learn from books or courses!

💦 It can be super messy! Winnie and I have been covered in milk on many occasions.

⏰ A feed can go on for over an hour. They may only be feeding for 5-40 minutes, but with their breaks, nappy changes (which sometimes require outfit changes…), burping, and sit up time (Winnie has reflux) I can still be feeding 1.5 hours later. Not leaving much time until her next feed.

🤕 Even a little bub can give you arm ache, and back ache during a lengthy feed.

💅🏻 Babies have seriously sharp nails and scratch the hell out of your chest (and their delicate face) unless you file or cover them.

🐙It sometimes feels like your feeding an octopus… because no matter how many times you pull their hand out their mouth or off their face it’s straight back there.

🐓 It’s practically an Olympic sport to get a latch when they are bobbing their head around everywhere like a chicken.

😱 It’s intensely anxiety inducing when they choke on the fast flow of milk and you wait for them to FINALLY take a breath.

🍳 Babies really can have a favourite boob, and if you don’t feed on the other one for a feed or two you will have one dramatically bigger than the other until you feed or express!

🐄 You can leak milk after a shower/bath (or any time for that matter), so have to get those breast pads on pretty sharpish unless you want to lace the bathroom floor with breast milk.

😬 Your nipples do this sort of cringey tingle when your milk lets down (for me anyway), and you will find yourself suddenly grabbing your boobs in public.

💫 It can be utter magic to breastfeed and I feel so very blessed to be able to experience it.
