Reading opens up the world and thus our eyes to the possibilities of what could be, what we could achieve, and what we could withstand. I stumbled across a quotation that said “I read a book one day, and my whole life was changed”. Since then every time I buy a new book or turn the first page of my next read, i’m excited at the prospect this book could be that life changer!
The books and podcasts below are some of the Sistabliss Tribe most favourite self-help and fiction titles, with a variety of topics and genres to suit your mood. From inspirational guides to life and harrowing true stories to easy-reading romances and laugh out loud inducing comedy.

The book explains the causes and consequences of stress before guiding the reader through various methods to combat stress, in a really clear and relatable way.

The topic of this book is seriously needed in our modern society. Gabby Bernstein takes the reader through a journey of mental and written exercises to reduce the judgement which is tainting our lives and the way we view others.

Novels You’ll Love!
Where The Crawdads Sing – Delia Owens
Poetically written, the story is set in Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. In late 1969, when a handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya, the so-called ‘Marsh Girl’. Kya has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friendship with the gulls. Until she opens herself to a new life – and the unthinkable happens.
Our Stop – Laura Jane Williams
An easy-read, romantic tale following Nadia and Daniel, two strangers who get the same 7.30 train every morning. One morning, Nadia’s eye catches sight of a message in the daily paper, ‘To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime?”

Another easy-read romance to enjoy – Tiffy Moore needs a cheap flat fast. Leon Twomey works nights and needs money. They find the perfect solution, Leon occupies the one-bedroom flat during the while Tiffy’s at work, and she has the the place to herself the rest of the time.
Home Going – Yaa Gyasi
The first book I ever read which I wasn’t dying to get to the end of, I just wanted to read and read! Effia and Esi are two sisters with two very different paths. One sold into slavery; one a slave trader’s wife. The consequences of their fate reverberate through the generations that follow.
Queenie – Candice Carty-Williams
Queenie is a 25 year old Black woman living in south London, straddling Jamaican and British culture whilst fitting neatly into neither. At the newspaper where she works, Queenie is constantly forced to compare herself to her white, middle-class peers, and beg to write about Black Lives Matter.
This Time Next Year – Sophie Cousens
Quinn and Minnie are both born on the same New Year’s Eve, in the same hospital, just one minute apart. Thirty years later they find themselves together again in the same place, on New Year’s Eve, as fate appears to be determined to keep them in each others lives.

The Health Code
If you want a real, honest, fun and easy podcast to cheer you up, this is the one for you. Sarah’s Day is a fitness Youtuber, and in my opinion, a fantastic role model for girls. Sarah and her partner Kurt Tilse discuss general topics about life, relationships, fitness and nutrition.

Deliciously Ella
Ella and Matt Mills cover a range of motivational topics, inviting guest experts to join the conversation. Whilst some other podcasts can be educational but a little hard to listen to, Ellas voice and interview style is surprisingly soothing.

Feel Better Live More
Dr Chatterjee simplifies the complexities of staying physically and mentally healthy, with interesting topics and expert guests. He recently set up an accompanying Facebook group where listeners ask each other questions and share advice – a brilliant idea.

My Favourite Murder
Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark are my favourite! They use humour to cope with tragedy and empower women to be their own hero and protect themselves! If you don’t enjoy true crime however, this one may not be for you.
