25 Happy & Hilarious Films To REALLY Uplift Your Mood

Hello. If you’re here, you are likely on the hunt for feel-good or laugh out-loud movies to lift your mood. Well you have come to the right place! Below is my selection of happy films which never fail to put a smile on my face – some with funny storylines and hilarious actors, some with heartwarming themes and some with just generally light hearted silly plots that surprisingly work.

So grab your popcorn, sit back and relax, and prepare to disappear into an alternate world which will make you smile, laugh and maybe even sing!

This post includes affiliate links for Amazon, which means I receive a small commission when you make a purchase or sign up to a subscription, at no extra cost to you. Please note films are often added and removed sporadically on streaming platforms and therefore the availability of films on Prime may change from the date this post was last updated (07/02/2026).

Bridget Jones Diary

I don’t think it would be too controversial to say this is one of the best, most loved movies of all time. This film follows the life of fictional character Bridget Jones. A 30-something single woman living in London, with a penchant for binging alcohol and cigarettes, who can’t cook or hold down a man. Her diary documents her hilarious journey heading straight to spinster-ville, until everything changes when two handsome rivals fight (literally) for her love.

Also watch: Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones’ Baby, Bridget Jones’ Mad About The Boy – available on Amazon Prime Video.

Mamma Mia!

It’s time to sing! Full of Abba hits, this seriously feel-good, dance on the sofa, sing into your hairbrush film is a must-see. Sophie is preparing for her wedding on the Greek island where she lives with her mother, when she discovers her mother’s diary professing of nights of passion with three men who could all be Sophies father. So what does she do? Invite them all to the wedding of course! Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Also watch: Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Matilda

A family favourite childhood classic telling the tale of a little girl with a thirst for knowledge and a very special gift. Misunderstood by her family who are very different from her, Matilda is thrown from one unfortunate situation to another, meeting more unsavoury characters along the way. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Struggling musician Peter, who is brutally dumped by his beautiful actor ex girlfriend Sarah Marshall (played by the amazing Kristen Bell), flies off to Hawaii to mend his broken heart. In this hilarious twist of events, Sarah Marshall is staying at the same hotel with new love interest, brilliantly played by Russel Brand. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Bad Moms

This movie has an epic cast of awesome women, including Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn and Christina Applegate. After years of striving to be the best mother she can be, mum of 2, Amy decides being a bad mum sounds much more fun in this must-see comedy. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Also watch: Bad Moms 2

Happy Gilmore

An Adam Sandler classic comedy. A failed hockey player discovers his talent for golf, but can he rein in his hot temper and immature antics on the course to avoid sabotaging his future? Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Pitch Perfect

An ultimate girl power, sing your heart out, laugh so hard you choke on your wine comedy film. Beca, played by the uber talented Anna Kendrick, starts at Barden University where she joins an acapella singing group with some big characters! Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Also watch: Pitch Perfect 2, Pitch Perfect 3.

Little Miss Sunshine

A critically acclaimed movie which definitely deserves a place on this list. When a little girl, Olive, dreams to win a beauty pageant at Redondo Beach in California, her family pile into a camper van and travel across the country to take her there. The journey is full of hilarious pit-stops and obstacles along the way. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Bridesmaids

Acting alongside an amazing female cast, Kristen Wigg (who also co-wrote the story) plays Annie, a failed baker who suffers a series of unfortunate (and some hilariously funny) obstacles as she acts as maid of honour for her best friend.

The Parent Trap

Another feel-good family favourite! Teenage twin sisters (played by a young Linsey Lohan) meet for the first time at a camp and scheme to swap places in order to meet their long lost parent. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Grown Ups

Laugh out loud funny, Grown Ups is the ultimate silly film which also has important themes of friendship and family. You know it’s going to be an epic comedy when you see the cast, including Adam Sandler (also the co-writer), Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. The five friends from high school reunite for a funeral and reminisce over old time with their new families. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Also watch: Grown Ups 2.

Mean Girls

You can’t sit with us! Only kidding. An innocent girl, Cady, transferred from Africa to a new high school in America falls in with a clique called The Plastics. Her new life being friends with the most popular girls in school is going well until she falls in love with the ex-boyfriend of clique leader, Regina George.

25 best films to really uplift your mood pinterest pin.

Blended

An absolute favourite of mine – which is controversial as it’s had pretty poor reviews. It has heartache, big characters, a colourful storyline, feel-good twists, uplifting music and a fantastic cast – what more could you want. When Lauren (Drew Barrymore), a divorcee with two boys, goes on a terrible blind date with Jim (Adam Sandler), widower with three girls, she doesn’t expect to see him again. But a twist of fate sees them holidaying together on safari in Africa. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Love Actually

I feel like a don’t need to say much here, as surely everyone has seen Love Actually right? But if you haven’t, it is an absolute winner of a movie, following the romantic lives of various lovable characters. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Eat. Pray. Love.

While this isn’t a comedy, it’s definitely a feel-good movie in my books. The story is a beautiful tale of a woman’s search for herself after a lifetime of failed relationships have led her to be unsure of who she is. As the title suggests, she travels across the world to eat, to pray and finally to love. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

50 First Dates

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore star together again in this uplifting story of heartbreak, laughter and love. Adam Sandler plays Henry, a womanising marine veterinarian who meets Lucy, an art teacher with an unexpected secret even she is unaware of. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

We’re The Millers

Jennifer Anniston rarely disappoints, so her staring role in this movie means you know it’s going to be good. We’re The Millers is a hilarious comedy following four misfits in need of money and friendship, joining together to achieve one epic and very much illegal challenge in the hope of all their problems being solved. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Identity Thief

Played by the famously funny Melissa McCarthy, Diana steals the identity of Sandy Patterson, a hard working father to be. As his credit cards are declined, Sandy sets off on a mission to find Diana and bring her to the cops. But she isn’t ready to hand herself in that easily! Available on Amazon Prime Video.

21 Jump Street

Oh hello Channing! Police Office Jenko (played by Channing Tatum) and fellow officer Schmitt (played by Jonah Hill) are thrown back into high school for an undercover investigation to bust a drug dealing ring. It is silly, ridiculous at times, but hilarious none the less.

Bad Neighbours

A happy couple enjoying the new-parent life in their new house are forced to take on their bad neighbours, a fraternity house of determined students who are not giving in to their requests without a fight. Staring Seth Rogan, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne – another great cast. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Step Brothers

I forgot to ask, do you like guacamole? Some would say, one of the funniest movies ever, although ridiculously silly. When mother of 40 year old still-lives-at-home Brennan (played by Will Ferrell) meets father of 40 year old still-lives-at-home Dale (played by John C. Reilly) they fall in love instantly. Their not so thrilled sons are suddenly forced to live together, and chaos ensues. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

The Hangover

If you’ve ever woken up with a mighty hangover and a black hole in your mind where the memories of the night before should be, then you will understand the plight of the characters in this comedy. A bachelor party (a ‘stag do’ to us brits) in vegas doesn’t go quite to plan, and the buddies trace their steps to find their missing pal. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

This Is 40

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann (the best casting) play married parents of two and business owners Pete and Debbie. The film follows their typical family life as they turn 40 – it’s hilariously funny (but then Leslie Mann is brilliant in anything) and relatable for anyone who has experienced turning 40 or witnessed their parents turn 40. Watch on Amazon Prime, with a free trial available to new customers.

Meet The Parents

A male nurse named Gaylord Focker (aka Greg) is the victim of a series of unfortunate events whilst visiting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. Starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro this comedy has a pretty incredible cast. Although rare, I would even say the sequels are better, with Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman bringing even more laughter and smiles to the franchise.

Also watch: Meet The Fockers, Little Fockers.

The Other Women

Oh don’t you love it when women support each other, especially when a dirtbag husband/boyfriend is in the mix. A great storyline, made hilarious by Leslie Mann bringing her usual sunshine and funny personality to one of the leading roles. Carly (played by Cameron Diaz) is shocked to find out her boyfriend is married when she mistakenly meets his wife Kate (Mann). A heartwarming and comedic treat celebrating female friendship and girl power! Available on Amazon Prime Video.

So there you have 25 (and a few sequels) funny, uplifting and happy films to brighten up your day or turn a dull evening into one of laughter. You can find most of these happy films on Amazon Prime Video, and many included within a Prime subscription for which new customers can get with a free trial for instant watching. Visit my Amazon Storefront to find all titles. Let me know what your favourite uplifting movies are in the comments below.
