Happy first day of spring! With the UK being in lockdown for the majority of winter, we are all in much need of a boost with lighter days, warmer temperatures and stable weather to get us off the sofa and outdoors. I always feel such a wave of creativity and energy in spring time, which makes me want to make, mend and move! In this blog post, I share 10 exciting spring activities, to venture out into the great outdoors and bring the outdoors in, to help boost physical and mental wellbeing.

Plant flowers, fruit and vegetables
Seeing tulips and daffodils in full bloom brings so much joy to my day! Spring is 100% the most beautiful time of year to experience the great outdoors. Gardening is not only beneficial for the mind, but all those tasty home grown vegetables and fruits are full of vitamins for a healthy body too.
If you are lucky enough to have a garden or space to grow potted plants, spring is the perfect time to get planting. From fresh flowers about to bloom, to your favourite fruits and vegetables. Visit the RHS website for a list of gardening jobs listed by month.
Freshen up your home
It’s called ‘spring cleaning’ for a reason right? It’s no surprise that having a tidy and clean home is beneficial for our wellbeing, physical and mental. Tidy home, tidy mind.
Spring is the perfect time to open your windows wide to let fresh air in throughout your home. Declutter every space, giving away or selling what you no longer need. Introduce a little organisation, for example, tidy bits and bobs away into baskets, use labelled jars to keep kitchen staples fresh and refold your clothes in draws.
Once the house is tidy and organised, it’s an ideal time to have a really deep clean and release all that hidden dust to float out the windows. I like to spray trusty Zoflora as a finishing touch to bring the fresh scent of spring into our home.

Hikes and bike rides
If lockdown has shown us anything, it’s to never underestimate the wellbeing benefits of a long walk outside. Besides the physical benefits of exercise, going for walks outdoors is proven to boost mood. In the UK, we are blessed to have breathtakingly beautiful walks, hikes and bike riding routes across the country. So it’s no wonder this makes my list of top 10 spring activities.

Get crafty
With all those bright colours blooming all around, it’s no wonder we can get a boost of creativity during spring. Freshen up outdoor furniture with a fresh lick of paint, draw a picturesque landscape or make fun crafts this season.

Exercise outdoors
Take your workouts into the fresh air! Whether you enjoy yoga, pilates, cardio, weight training or sports, pick up your equipment and take it outdoors. Is there any better way to practice yoga than with the warmths of the suns glow on your skin and the soft spring breeze flowing through your hair?
Eat al fresco
One of my favourite things about warm weather, is eating outside. Since the UK is still experiencing social restrictions, eating outside may be one of the few activities we can enjoy with friends and family this spring. Fun ideas include the great British BBQ, a traditional picnic or a ‘cooking at the table’ style lunch using a Raclette.

Embrace wildlife
Spring means trees are full of tweeting birds and fields are full of baby animals! Go to public nature spots, visit a farm during lambing season or plan a day out to a nature reserve or conservation attraction (once social restrictions allow) to support struggling organisations.
Fresh cut flowers
Freshen the air in your home with beautiful bunches of fresh cut flowers. Invite bursts of colour into every room.

Break out the spring outfits
At the start of every season, I find myself saying “no this is my favourite season for outfits!”. I admit I love a jeans, jumper and boots combo, but after months of living in loungewear I can’t wait to break out my spring wardrobe. Unsurprisingly, Spring 2021 fashion is going to be all about florals, along with crop tops, puffy sleeves, pastel colours and wide leg trousers.
Farmers markets
With spring usually comes farmers markets, the best place to support your local businesses and test out fresh produce. Peruse the stalls of locally grown vegetables, crusty loaves and free-range eggs. For me, it’s all about those cheese samples.
