There is no better way to capture true Christmas spirit, than by giving gifts from the heart, made with love and thought for the recipient. This is the first post in a series of simple ‘How To’ guides with step by step instructions to make homemade self care gifts. Each to inspire relaxation, self care and thriving wellbeing. These jars of relaxing lavender homemade bath salts are the perfect gift for any loved one, with ingredients to sooth muscles, detoxify skin, replenish minerals and relax the mind. (Make sure they own a bath tub – or receiving a gift as luxurious as this that they can’t use would just be torture!)
These bath salts are more than just soothing scents. They have natural ingredients and minerals which have a wealth of health benefits. Epsom Salt is an excellent natural remedy for relaxing aching or tense muscles and easing water retention. A long soak will leave your lucky loved one feeling as light as a feather, and ready to climb into bed for a peaceful nights sleep. Himalayan Salt is full of minerals which naturally detoxify the skin, perfect for achieving radiant looking skin. For an extra boost, the lavender distresses the mind, relaxes the body and prepares the body for sleep.

Easy to make, with just four ingredients, the whole family can try out this recipe for homemade bath salts. Now I know you just want to get straight to the good stuff – how to make these incredible jars of gorgeousness. So I’ll get right to it.
Supplies
The key is to shop around for the best price on your ingredients, as they can vary greatly and will make a big difference to the overall cost. You want quality at a competitive price. Work out how many jars you would like to make, and consider their size. I have provided further details below on the quantities I use with suggested ratios.

Ingredients
Pure Epsom Salt
Pure Himalayan Salt
100% pure Lavender Essential Oil
Dried Lavender
Quantities
I haven’t provided quantities above as this will depend on your size jars and how many you plan to make. You will need the same quantity of Epsom to Himalayan Salts, and 10 drops of essential oil for every 200g of salts. For each of my jars I used 425g Epsom Salt, 425g Himalayan Salt, 40 drops Lavender oil and a handful of lavender (about 1/4 cup).
I suggest purchasing or choosing your jars first, then use cupboard salt to work out the weight you will need of salts per jar. This will help you calculate the quantity to buy.

To make several jars, I purchased a 5kg bag of pure Epsom Salts for £14.49 and a 5kg bag Himalayan Salts for £8.99 on Amazon (price as of 04/10/2020). Buying larger quantities provides the cheapest cost per gift.
I purchased 50ml pure Lavender Essential Oil for just £4.89 from Freshskin Beauty (I will also use this for other homemade gifts, so this quantity will be used for multiple products).
Dried lavender can be bought in various quantities for just a few pounds. I picked up a small bag from a market in Munich for a couple of euros.

Instructions
Step 1
Once you know the quantities you need for your size jars, weigh out the salts at a 1:1 ratio into a mixing bowl, and combine together.

Step 2
Add your required number of drops of essential oil to the salt. Combine together with your hand. Wear a rubber glove to protect your skin from over exposer to the pure oil. Rub the salts between your fingers to evenly mix the oils and prevent clumps of salt.

Step 3
Sprinkle in dried lavender a little at a time until you have the desired quantity. I don’t like too much of the dried lavender in my bath, just enough for decoration/scent.

Step 4
Scoop your beautifully fragrant mixture into your jars and secure the lids. Admire your hand crafted creations!

Step 5
Write your labels of choice. You may wish to list the ingredients on the back, a good idea for your friends/family with sensitive skin . Tie your labels to your jars with string. Ta da!

These jars of heaven can be given on their own as a gift, or added to a gift box of other homemade goodies.
